After a decade of research, Prof. Paul Preston at the London School of Economics has just finished writing The Spanish Holocaust, which tallies, narrates, and explains the tremendous cost in human lives and suffering of the Spanish Civil War and its aftermath. The book, which has already won a prize, will be out in Spanish later this year and in English in 2012. Look for a pre-publication in the next Volunteer. A recent talk by Prof. Preston on the subject of his book can be viewed here.

It’s for sale as an ebook in Spain, e.g. at casadellibro.com — but I believe you need a Spanish (or perhaps an EU) IP address to purchase it. I’m confident that the English version, when it appears, will also have an ebook version for sale at all the major retailers.
