Los brigadistas chinos en la Guerra Civil: La llamada de España (1936-1939), by Hwei-Ru Tsou and Len Tsou, was published this month by Los Libros de la Catarata in Madrid, Spain. This new book is a Spanish edition of the original Chinese book, The Call of Spain: The Chinese Volunteers in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) which was published in Taiwan in 2001. Professor Laureano Ramírez Bellerín of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona assembled and coordinated a team of experts to prepare this Spanish translation. He and his wife, Xia Hang, were responsible for locating the publisher. Funding was generously provided by El Centro de Estudios y Documentación de las Brigadas Internacionales (CEDOBI) of the Universidad Castilla-La Mancha.

In May, when the Spanish edition was published in Spain, the Chinese simplified-character edition of the same book was also published in China. These two new books are timely gifts to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the departure of the International Brigades. Now a quarter of the world population has an opportunity to read this part of history, either in Chinese or in Spanish.
