Dublin: Friday 15 July
A public meeting, “75 years on – the International Brigades and the Spanish Civil War”, will be held at 7pm in the Teachers Club, 36 Parnell Square, Dublin 1. The meeting is organised by éirígí to mark the 75th anniversary of the start of the Spanish Civil War and to remember the role of the International Brigades in the international fight against fascism. It will be addressed by historians Emmet O’Connor (author of “Reds and the Green”) and Harry Owens (co-author with Bob Doyle of “Brigidista”). Following the meeting there will be a full bar and DJ playing ska, reggae and punk.

Kelmarsh Hall, Northants: Saturday & Sunday 16/17 July
As part of the English Heritage Festival of History at Kelmarsh Hall, Northamptonshire, to mark the 75th anniversary of the start of the Spanish Civil War, La Columna (the UK-based Spanish Civil War historical re-enactment group) will be recreating the arrival of British volunteers in Barcelona in the summer of 1936. Newcastle: Sunday 17 July
Tyne & Wear Branch of the Industrial Workers of the World is hosting an open event to mark the 75th anniversary of the start of the Spanish Civil War and to remember those from the North East and North West of England who volunteered to fight for the Republic. This is in association with the Durham Miners’ Association and NUM, Newcastle Central Branch of Unite and the International Brigade Memorial Trust. 10:30am: at the Spanish Civil War plaque outside Newcastle Civic Centre; wreath-laying event and short speeches.11:30am: upstairs room in the Percy Arms, Haymarket; speakers on the volunteers from the North East and North West; open debate and discussion; social and music.

Belfast: Friday 22 July
As part of the Anti Racism World Cup (local event organised for several years, including participation by several international teams), Irish-born International Brigader George Brown will be commemorated at a meeting at Donegal Celtic FC, Suffolk Road, Belfast. Members of the Inistioge George Brown Memorial Committee will show a short film and talk about the International Brigade; time unknown.Contact: georgebrown.inistioge@gmail.comwww.antiracismworldcup.net

Belfast: Thursday 28 July
