The historian and activist Ceferino Álvarez died on August 27, La Voz de Asturias reports–less than two years after his legendary father, Ceferino Alvarez Rey, aka “El Jefe,” who passed away in January last year. Álvarez, who published widely, was a leader of the Asociacion de Descendientes del Exilio and the movement for the Recovery of Historical Memory. In May of last year he organized the dedication of a plaque at the Fuencarral cemetery in Madrid to the British, American, and Canadian members of the International Brigades. This past April, Álvarez published a book about his father.
